Anger Management in Florida
Anger is usually the visible part of something else. That's the part worth working on.
The work
Most people who come about anger aren't angry all the time. They're fine at work, fine with strangers, and then something goes off at home over nothing in particular and they spend the rest of the evening wondering who that was.
Underneath it there's almost always something else — fear, humiliation, exhaustion, grief, or a nervous system still braced from something that happened years ago. Anger is fast and it's loud, so it gets there first. The work is slowing it down enough to see what's arriving underneath it.
What We'd Actually Do
- Spotting the build-up earlier than you do now
- What the anger is standing in front of
- Concrete skills for the moment itself
- Repairing afterwards, without grovelling
- Old patterns learned in the house you grew up in
- Sleep, alcohol, and the things that shorten the fuse
- Saying the difficult thing before it becomes the loud thing
- Rebuilding trust with people you've frightened
The People Around You
If this is affecting a relationship, couples sessions are often more useful than individual ones — not to assign blame, but because the pattern usually involves two people, and only one of them has been carrying the label.
Some of this draws on DBT, which was built for exactly this problem: riding out an intense emotion long enough that you get to choose what you do with it.
